What is TMJ Dysfunction?

The TMJ is a sliding hinge that connects your jaw to your skull, when issues arise with this joint, it is called TMJ Dysfunction.

The TMJ is the most used joint in the body; it’s involved with eating, talking, breathing, and facial expressions.

What are the causes?

It is difficult to determine an exact cause for a patient’s TMJ dysfunction as there are several factors that could contribute to the condition. These factors generally include:

  • teeth grinding
  • dislocation of the joint
  • arthritis
  • stress
  • acute trauma

What are the symptoms?

  • Jaw pain
  • Headaches
  • Ear aches
  • Aching facial pain
  • Difficulty opening your mouth wide
  • Clicking or popping sound in the jaw joint
